Friends of St Mary's Beighton

If you are interested in local history, the preservation and conservation of historic buildings, or volunteering - indoors or out - this could be for you, and it’s right on your doorstep!
There has been a church in Beighton since at least 1150, (that’s right, almost 1,000 years - it’s 400 years older than Chatsworth House!) and across the centuries it has been central to the life of the village and the surrounding area. It’s a truly historic building but sadly it’s beginning to show its age.

Because of this, we are in the process of setting up a ‘Friends’ group to help to make sure that this historic building remains intact for future generations of local residents. Amongst other things, these volunteers might:

  • research church history with the Lifestyle Centre local history group
  • organise community events to raise awareness of the history and culture of the parish
  • help to make and keep the churchyard attractive and eco-friendly
  • help to raise funds for essential expert repairs to this listed building

We have 2 events coming up that you can come along to to find out more about the Friends group
